WITH JUST UNDER ONE MONTH TO GO UNTIL ‘VALLEY GIVES’ AND THE WMASS NONPROFIT COMMUNITY GETS SUPER SOCIAL
Since September, 268 nonprofit organizations and programs have been building their social media presence to take part in the region’s first 24 hour e-philanthropy event
WHO: An amazing 268 nonprofits and programs both large and small that work in the arts, social services, environment, education (and more!) have signed up to participate in Valley Gives this inaugural year.
Valley Gives is a new initiative spearheaded and hosted by the Community Foundation of Western Massachusetts. Joining this effort as partners are eight of the leading funding organizations serving western Massachusetts, including: Jewish Federation of Western Massachusetts, Jewish Endowment Foundation, Women’s Fund of Western Massachusetts, United Way of Hampshire County, United Way of Franklin County, United Way of Pioneer Valley, Irene E. & George A. Davis Foundation, and The Beveridge Family Foundation.
WHERE: Gifts can be made on 12.12.12 at www.valleygivesday.org. Potential donors are encouraged to follow Valley Gives in real time on Facebook at www.facebook.com/ValleyGives or on Twitter @ValleyGives.
WHEN: Valley Gives will take place Wednesday, December 12, 2012 from 12 midnight to 11:59 PM
WHY: Valley Gives is a 24 hour e-philanthropy event to encourage residents in Hampden, Hampshire and Franklin counties to log on and contribute to their favorite local nonprofit organizations through www.valleygivesday.org – a new, centralized web-enabled, mobile giving platform.
When donors visit the Valley Gives website on December 12, 2012 between 12 midnight and 11:59 PM, they will be able to make gifts to their favorite nonprofits. Thanks to the generous sponsors and donors of Valley Gives, $150,000 in unrestricted cash prizes and exciting bonus matches will be given out to nonprofits that inspire the most donors and raise the most money.
There is only one restriction on the money raised during Valley Gives: all money raised by participating organizations MUST be spent on programs that serve the residents of Hampden, Hampshire and Franklin counties.
“The Valley’s nonprofit community is socially connected like never before,” said Katie Zobel, Vice President of Philanthropic Services for the Community Foundation of Western Massachusetts. “With online fundraising growing, our goal was to help local organizations to strengthen their use of social media to raise money from their donors on 12.12.12, so that they have this expanded capacity year round.”
“We expect that in the days leading up to December 12th residents of western Massachusetts will have a hard time missing message of Valley Gives. We expect that everyone’s Facebook wall and Twitter feed and email inbox will be full of messages to make a gift on this day.”
Training sessions were held to assist participating nonprofits in building their social media presence on Twitter and Facebook in preparation for 12.12.12 and to provide them with new ways to communicate with and solicit their supporters year-round.
“We’re seeing nonprofits that have never had a Twitter handle or a Facebook page embrace signing up. On our end we’re doing our best to give them as much technical support as we can deliver,” said Kristen Leutz, Vice President of Philanthropic Services for the Community Foundation of Western Massachusetts.
95% of the nonprofit organizations participating are from Hampden (43%), Hampshire (34%) and Franklin County (20%). Another 5% are located outside the region but serve the Pioneer Valley.
Valley Gives technical support is provided by Razoo, the world’s fastest-growing crowdfunding site for causes. Razoo, which has helped nonprofits raise over $101M, is committed to creating a more generous world by offering easy-to-use online fundraising tools for individuals and nonprofits.
Valley Gives is generously supported by Easthampton Savings Bank; Doherty, Wallace, Pillsbury, Murphy, P.C.; Balise; Peter Pan; and Paragus Strategic IT as well as numerous individual donors.
